Uber Freight expands business with major AI investment
When the pandemic disrupted global supply chains three years ago, Colgate-Palmolive’s supply chain chief Luciano Sieber spearheaded an ambitious logistics overhaul.
This initiative provided valuable insights into the company’s global distribution network – but also revealed a new challenge: information overload.
Sieber discovered a solution through Uber Freight, whose logistics analytics division had been pioneering AI-driven approaches to process massive datasets. Colgate-Palmolive became an early adopter of Insights AI, Uber Freight’s specialized logistics language model.
Uber Freight is now rolling out a comprehensive AI toolkit worldwide, including an enhanced version of Insights AI and over 30 automated agents designed to streamline freight operations.
While Uber Freight isn’t the only player applying AI to supply chain optimization – competitors like Flexport have introduced similar tools – the company leverages eight years of industry relationships and data insights to deliver measurable cost savings.
"Supply chains generate enormous amounts of complex data," explains Uber Freight founder Lior Ron. "AI can fundamentally transform how we analyze and optimize these systems."

Laying the foundation for AI transformation
What began as a freight brokerage in 2017 has evolved into a technology-driven logistics solutions provider.
Ron’s academic background in neural networks and experience leading Google Maps shaped his vision for digitizing physical logistics networks. "Supply chain optimization is fundamentally a data and technology challenge," he notes.
Uber Freight’s initial AI implementations achieved only moderate accuracy, but persistent refinement has yielded a 98% reliable system trained on data from $20 billion in annual freight movement.
The Insights AI platform provides real-time analytics that previously required weeks of manual analysis – from identifying underperforming suppliers to generating comprehensive shipping reports with natural language queries.
Delivering actionable intelligence
Colgate-Palmolive emerged as an ideal development partner, with its established corporate AI infrastructure and workforce training programs.
"These tools transform apprehension into opportunity," Sieber observes. "They enhance efficiency rather than threaten jobs."
The system enables real-time monitoring of thousands of carriers – flagging contractual discrepancies that previously went undetected for weeks or months.
Future implementations will focus on predictive analytics, alerting companies to potential cost savings and optimal shipping alternatives before issues arise.
While individual optimizations may yield modest savings, the cumulative impact across global networks delivers substantial value – particularly appreciated by finance executives monitoring the bottom line.
