China unveils national humanoid robot and embodied intelligence standards
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's Technical Committee for Standardization of Humanoid Robots and Embodied Intelligence officially launched the "Standard System for Humanoid Robots and Embodied Intelligence (2026 Edition)" at its first annual meeting today. As China’s first comprehensive standard framework spanning the entire industrial chain and lifecycle of humanoid robots, this system addresses the industry's lack of standardization, signaling a new phase of high-quality, standards-driven growth following the initial technology exploration period.

This system is built on a solid logical structure, encompassing six core domains: fundamental common standards, brain-like and intelligent computing, limbs and components, complete machines and systems, applications, as well as safety and ethics. From a technical perspective, it focuses on regulating embodied intelligence's "brain and body" and intelligent computing standards, enabling a closed-loop process for data across its lifecycle and model training and deployment. On the hardware side, it introduces modular guidelines ranging from human-like torsos and dexterous hands to communication unit modules. At the same time, safety and ethical standards are integrated throughout the framework, providing a foundational guarantee for compliant technological development.
Global competition in embodied intelligence has now evolved from individual technology breakthroughs to the development of comprehensive industry ecosystems. By establishing unified criteria for software and hardware integration and application scenario specifications, the committee’s initiative can effectively tackle industry-wide issues such as "data shortages" and fragmented standards, accelerating the widespread adoption of humanoid robots in complex environments like industrial assembly and medical clinics. Moving forward, the committee will collaborate with government, industry, research, and academic stakeholders, using standards as a bridge to foster innovation across the industrial chain and build a globally competitive ecosystem for embodied intelligence.
