Horizon Unveils White-Box Licensing for Core i7, Accelerating Mass Production of L3 and L4 AI Models
Horizon Robotics is evolving from a Chinese autonomous driving innovator into the intelligent driving brain for a global automotive leader in China. As reported by Gelonghui, Horizon and Volkswagen Group officially announced on July 22 that their joint venture, Coretech (CARIZON), will deepen technical collaboration with CARIAD and Horizon on AI foundation large models. The partnership’s core lies in its licensing structure: Coretech leverages Horizon’s advanced AI foundation models to independently develop and accelerate a unified AI driving solution for Volkswagen Group in China, utilizing a white-box licensing model. This approach grants Volkswagen not just a black-box result, but a technical foundation capable of self-digestion and continuous iteration.
Model capability alone is insufficient; successful implementation requires a robust collaborative ecosystem. Horizon’s AI foundation large model integrates closely with Coretech’s developing C7H system-on-chip and the GAIA world model data platform, creating bottom-level synergy to comprehensively enable L3 and L4 autonomous driving for Volkswagen Group. This integration establishes the technological foundation for future passenger vehicles and autonomous taxis (Robotaxis), while driving the continuous iteration of already mass-produced full-scenario advanced driver assistance systems. This ensures that today’s driver assistance and tomorrow’s true autonomous driving share a unified growth trajectory.
The most critical advancement is the deep integration of this AI-powered intelligent driving system with Volkswagen Group’s first regionally developed electronic architecture, the CEA architecture. This integration merges algorithms, chips, and vehicle electronic architecture into a cohesive unit, rather than operating in silos. By leveraging platform advantages, these technologies can be flexibly adapted across multiple vehicle platforms and deployed on various models, achieving broader application within Volkswagen’s product lineup for China and select international markets.
