xAI, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, has undergone another round of significant staff turnover. Co-founder Toby Pohlen has officially announced his exit. Sharing his thoughts on X, Pohlen reflected on his three-year tenure, noting he handled thousands of pull requests and shared many memorable moments with the team. He commended their relentless work ethic, joking, “No one stays up later than you.” His immediate plan after leaving is to get over eight hours of sleep, followed by some time to consider his next steps.
Pohlen’s exit signals further fragmentation within xAI’s founding group. In less than three years, seven of the original twelve co-founders have departed, leaving a retention rate of under 50%.
