Glydways Secures $170 Million to Advance Autonomous Vehicle Tech

Glydways claims its mobility system is fundamentally different, delivering order-of-magnitude improvements in efficiency, cost, and rider experience while maintaining attractive operating margins. | Source: Glydways
Glydways, a developer of autonomous vehicles for urban transit, announced last week that it secured $170 million in Series C funding. This latest round brings the company's total funding to over $250 million since its inception.
The oversubscribed commercialization round coincides with Glydways' growing global momentum. This includes signing Memorandums of Understanding with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority. The company's first publicly accessible system is also operational in South Metro Atlanta.
“Glydways isn't just an evolution of transportation; it's a completely new model for urban mobility. We are now entering real-world operations, demonstrating that high-capacity, on-demand personal transit can be better for riders, financially sustainable, and a solution to congestion,” stated Mark Seeger, founder and co-CEO of Glydways. “Glydways will launch public operations this year, showing people a new, efficient, and affordable way to navigate cities. Having committed investors supporting every aspect of our market entry is crucial as we make Glydways a reality for riders worldwide.”
Based in San Francisco, California, the company aims to help cities build and scale networks of autonomous vehicle expressways. These networks are designed to move people with ten times the throughput and cost efficiency of current technology.
The funding round was co-led by Suzuki Motor Corporation, ACS Group, and Khosla Ventures. Existing investors Mitsui Chemicals and Gates Frontier participated, alongside new investor Obayashi Corporation, a major general contractor and developer.
Glydways goes beyond the limits of typical autonomous vehicles
Glydways represents a new category in mobility. While autonomous vehicle technology has advanced quickly, its impact remains limited when deployed on existing road infrastructure.
Glydways combines its autonomous vehicles with dedicated, managed, small guideways. This creates high-capacity, on-demand networks that operate free from congestion and stops. The company states its system provides direct, on-demand, private rides. This approach drives significantly higher ridership while adding greater transit capacity at a substantially lower fare.
“The future of urban mobility is seamless, zero-congestion, zero-stop movement, where flow is designed continuously, not managed as traffic,” added Seeger. “Compared to existing systems, Glydways will feel like teleportation.”
The proceeds from this round will be allocated across three strategic priorities:
Geographic Expansion: Glydways is launching three operational pilots in 2026. These will be in the UAE, New York City, and Atlanta. The company plans to ramp up for large-scale operations beginning in 2027.Technology Development: The company will accelerate production of its next-generation Glydcars, manufactured by its partner, Suzuki.Talent and Infrastructure: As Glydways prepares to scale to meet demand from the rapidly doubling urban population, it continues to grow its team and expand its global presence across North America, APAC, the Middle East, and Europe. Glydways now operates eight offices worldwide.
