Ford launched an AI assistant this week capable of monitoring and analyzing millions of data points to help Ford Pro commercial customers improve their profitability.
The bet — one that most other automakers are also placing — is that software offers a lucrative revenue stream.
Ford Pro AI made its debut at Work Truck Week in Indianapolis and is now accessible to all U.S.-based Pro telematics subscribers. The AI assistant comes included with the subscription. Ford does not reveal its exact number of U.S. subscribers but reports over 840,000 global subscribers.
Ford Pro, which brought in $66.3 billion in revenue in 2025, represents a logical focus as the company looks for ways to deliver more value to paying customers. However, it is not the only area of emphasis. Earlier this year at CES 2026, Ford announced it is developing an AI assistant for owners of its passenger cars and trucks, which will first appear in the company’s smartphone app and later expand to its vehicles in 2027.
Ford emphasized to TechCrunch that this is not simply a chatbot. Instead, the company explained that its proprietary systems provide subscribers with detailed insights into fuel consumption, seatbelt usage, and vehicle health — not just a list of error codes when issues arise. It also gives fleet managers data on idle times, speeding, and acceleration events.
Similar to its consumer AI assistant, Ford Pro AI is built on Google Cloud and leverages multiple AI agents. According to Ford, the key differentiator is its use of internal data from each customer’s fleet, which helps minimize the risk of AI hallucinations and errors.
Ford Pro — a business division that sells Super Duty large trucks and serves commercial, government, and rental customers — has become a profitable unit for the automaker. According to its earnings report, the Ford Pro division posted a net income of $6.8 billion in 2025. The company also noted that Ford Pro paid software subscriptions grew by 30% during the same year.
Even as Ford introduces AI tools for its customers, its executive leadership has warned of upcoming job cuts driven by this technology. Last year, CEO Jim Farley predicted that AI would cut the number of white-collar jobs in the United States by half. In January, Farley stated that the U.S. requires essential workers to build and maintain the infrastructure necessary to achieve its ambitious AI goals.
