OpenAI Lands Record Order as Samsung Deploys AI to 120,000 Employees

OpenAI and Samsung Electronics have just signed their largest enterprise deployment agreement yet. Under this deal, Samsung will provide over 120,000 employees worldwide with access to ChatGPT Enterprise and the Codex platform, with the goal of transforming daily workflows and boosting productivity through deep AI integration.
The rollout includes all Samsung Electronics employees in South Korea, along with global teams in the Device Experience (DX) division. These 120,000 staff work across software development, marketing, product design, and manufacturing. With ChatGPT and Codex, Samsung aims to help employees handle information retrieval, complex data analysis, document writing, and creative development more efficiently—automating tedious tasks so they can focus on higher-value innovation.
Codex, OpenAI's platform, has evolved significantly. Originally a coding assistant for developers, it now serves as a general-purpose platform for non-technical roles, helping automate workflows across different business processes. According to data, Codex has over 5 million weekly active users, and its user base in South Korea has surged by 800% since February this year.
The ChatGPT Enterprise version used in this deployment includes enhanced data protection, user permission management, and security compliance measures. Samsung emphasizes that all employees must follow the company's security governance framework when using AI tools, ensuring sensitive data remains protected within the enterprise.
Kim Kyung-hoon, OpenAI's head in South Korea, noted that this is more than a tool purchase—it marks a pivotal step in Samsung's effort to make AI a global strategic platform. The partnership goes beyond this agreement; the two companies also plan to collaborate on supplying high-end storage semiconductors for next-generation AI infrastructure, aiming for mutual benefits in supply chain and business innovation.
In South Korea, adopting generative AI as infrastructure has become a widespread trend, with companies like LG Electronics, Samsung SDS, and Kakao following suit. Samsung Electronics' "super order" signals that enterprise AI is moving from pilots to full-scale deployment, setting a new benchmark for global corporate AI transformation.
