At the 2026 APEC Business Leaders China Forum on June 21, JD.com founder Liu Qiangdong announced that the company would make all its AI technologies openly available to global partners starting immediately. The announcement drew widespread industry attention, seen as a pivotal step toward democratizing artificial intelligence and dismantling technical silos.
During the forum, Liu elaborated on the philosophy behind the open strategy, stressing that companies should act as collaboration enablers rather than "wall-builders" that create technological barriers. He urged partners across the Asia-Pacific and beyond to deepen cooperation in AI and robotics, accelerating industrial transformation through shared resources.
Beyond macro-level tech strategies, Liu also examined the transformation of talent structures amid the AI wave. To tackle employment challenges from technological shifts, JD.com launched the internal "Phoenix Project, which aims to help its 700,000 blue-collar employees retrain and transition to new skillsets through systematic career re-education.

Liu also stressed the underlying principles of cross-border operations, noting that a company's internationalization must be grounded in local roots and deep respect for local laws, regulations, and cultural traditions. He cautioned businesses to prioritize long-term sustainable development over blindly chasing short-term gains.
The full rollout of JD's AI technologies abroad and the execution of the "Phoenix Project" shows how the industry giant is exploring a development path that fuses commercial vision with social responsibility through tech sharing and talent transformation.
