Simbe has announced that its Tally shelf-scanning autonomous mobile robot, along with its charging dock, has obtained UL 3300 certification from UL Solutions following rigorous third-party testing.
The UL 3300 standard sets demanding requirements for the mechanical, electrical, and software systems of robots operating in dynamic, public spaces. It is also listed in OSHA’s Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) Program as an appropriate test standard, helping organizations ensure their autonomous robot deployments align with recognized workplace safety expectations.
For retailers, this certification demonstrates that Tally can operate safely among shoppers and store staff, empowering teams to deliver the service and experiences that make their stores preferred shopping destinations.
“Since 2015, we have designed Tally to earn the trust of shoppers navigating the aisles, store teams working alongside it, and retailers deploying it at scale,” said Jeff Gee, Chief Design Officer at Simbe. “This UL 3300 certification confirms what our retail partners, their store teams, and customers experience every day: Tally is retail’s favored robot because it operates safely in real-world conditions. This milestone reflects our commitment to people-first automation.”
Simbe states that its Store Intelligence platform features the Tally autonomous mobile robot (AMR), which uses computer vision to identify product locations, stock levels, and pricing and promotion information. The company added that its vision and AI technology, upgraded last year, delivers visibility and near real-time insights.
Tally is safe to operate in public spaces with stable performance
As part of the UL 3300 evaluation, Tally successfully passed over 40 safety tests, proving its ability to operate safely and reliably in retail environments. Key assessment areas included:
Real-time detection and protective braking for safe navigation through dynamic aisles alongside shoppers and store associates.Functionality verified across multiple safety classes using methodologies aligned with ISO 13849-1:2023.Design tailored for consumer-facing environments, incorporating safeguards for all movement and charging procedures.Performance validated on common retail flooring and fixtures to ensure stable, reliable daily operation.Electrical and power systems engineered for safe and dependable store operations.“UL 3300 certification addresses the specific safety needs of robots operating in public spaces with constant human interaction,” stated Sherry He, Vice President and General Manager of Consumer, Medical and Information Technologies at UL Solutions. “Simbe’s achievement as the first retail robotics company to earn this certification underscores their leadership in promoting responsible deployment. This independent validation gives retailers, store teams, and shoppers confidence that Tally meets the highest standards for safe operation in dynamic store settings.”
About Simbe’s other certifications
In addition to UL 3300, Simbe operates under an established SOC 2 Type II framework, which evaluates the systems and operational controls that ensure the secure delivery of its Store Intelligence platform.
While UL 3300 confirms Tally’s physical safety in public retail spaces, SOC 2 examinations assess Simbe’s controls across key Trust Services Criteria, including security, availability, confidentiality, and operational oversight.
Simbe also holds ISO/IEC 27001 certification, the internationally recognized standard for information security management systems (ISMS). This certification confirms that Simbe maintains formal, risk-based policies and controls to protect information assets, manage security risks, and continually enhance its information security practices across the organization.
