Reddit Tests New AI-Powered Shopping Search Feature

On Thursday, Reddit revealed it is testing a new AI search feature that blends community suggestions with products from select shopping and advertising partners.
A limited number of U.S. users will begin seeing interactive product carousels in search results, complete with pricing, images, and direct purchase links.
This initiative is part of Reddit's wider strategy to merge its community-driven model with e-commerce functionality. It follows last year’s introduction of Dynamic Product Ads (DPA), the platform's first shoppable ad format, which delivers personalized product recommendations based on user interests.
Test participants searching for topics like "best noise-canceling headphones" or "electronic gift ideas for a college student" will now find a product carousel at the bottom of their search results.
Each carousel highlights items directly recommended by users in relevant posts and comments. Tapping a product reveals more details and redirects users to the retailer for purchase.
“This feature highlights top-recommended products directly from community discussions, giving Redditors quick access to product information,” the company stated in a blog post. “We’re testing this to improve navigation while keeping community insights central. We’ll continue refining the experience based on user feedback.”
While platforms such as TikTok and Instagram have long incorporated shopping tools, Reddit is now entering this space. It's not alone in exploring AI-powered commerce—OpenAI’s ChatGPT introduced an "Instant Checkout" feature last September, allowing users to buy from Etsy and Shopify directly within conversations.
