Read AI introduces email-powered digital twin for scheduling and Q&A

Read AI, the meeting notetaker, launched an AI-powered email assistant named Ada on Thursday. The tool helps users manage schedules, answer questions using company knowledge, and respond to out-of-office messages.

Read AI refers to Ada as a "digital twin" that works around the clock. The assistant is available to all users, who can start configuring it by emailing "[email protected]" with the subject "Get me started."

When you ask Ada to schedule a meeting with someone, it replies to the thread with your availability. If the other person suggests a different time, Ada offers new options. Although Ada accesses your calendar through Read AI, it does not reveal the nature of those meetings.

Ada can also pull answers from company knowledge bases, past meeting topics, and public web searches. For example, you can ask "Ada, can you provide an update on how we are tracking for Q1 goals?" to get relevant information.

If someone else asks a question in a thread, Ada drafts a response for you and helps you refine it before sending. According to Read AI, Ada does not share sensitive information without your permission.

Justin Farris, Read AI’s VP of Product, said the new feature does not rely on MCPs (model context protocols, a standard for linking AI tools to external services). Instead, it builds a knowledge graph from meeting data and connected services to provide more contextual answers. He added that over time, Ada will take proactive actions, such as prompting you to set up follow-up items mentioned in meetings with relevant context.

CEO David Shim told TechCrunch, "The way I describe our solution is that when you onboard a new employee, you train them. When you add Ada to your workflow and connect more services for context, it begins to ramp up and handle more tasks for you."

Read AI stated that Ada currently operates via email but will soon be available on Slack and Microsoft Teams.

On the sidelines of Web Summit Qatar earlier this month, Shim told TechCrunch that the company now has over 5 million monthly active users and aims to reach 10 million. He noted 50,000 daily sign-ups and a broader base of 100,000 users who consume Read AI content, such as meeting summaries, without creating an account.

The U.S. remains Read AI’s largest market, with strong international growth. Although 60% of users are outside the U.S., revenue is split roughly equally.

The company, which has raised over $81 million, continues to add AI-powered tools. Last year, it launched Search Copilot for knowledge discovery, and last month it added features to update CRM software, send custom emails from meeting reports, and stay informed on topics using internal and web knowledge.

Other meeting note-taking tools are also introducing new features to extract insights and actions from notes. In September, Granola added "recipes" as repeatable prompts to surface knowledge from meeting data. Quill, which emerged from stealth with a $6.5 million funding round this week, integrates with tools like Linear, Notion, and CRMs to automate tasks.
