Microsoft 365 Copilot Enterprise Adoption Surges with Major Deals

Microsoft announced during its quarterly earnings call that Microsoft 365 Copilot, integrated into applications like Word, Excel, and Outlook, has now reached 20 million paid enterprise seats. CEO Satya Nadella highlighted that the count of enterprises with over 50,000 paid seats has quadrupled, with major firms such as Bayer, Johnson & Johnson, Mercedes-Benz, and Roche each surpassing 90,000 subscriptions. A significant recent deal with Accenture for more than 740,000 seats marks the largest single order since the product's launch.
User engagement with Copilot has grown substantially, with query volume rising nearly 20% quarter-over-quarter. Weekly active users have reached parity with Outlook, indicating that AI tools are becoming integral to daily workflows. Technically, Microsoft clarified that Copilot utilizes multiple AI models running in parallel through an intelligent routing system, rather than relying on a single model. It already incorporates external models like Anthropic's Claude to enhance response quality.
The introduction of an agentic mode has become a key growth driver. Recently set as the default experience for Copilot and core M365 components, this mode allows users to delegate complex, multi-step tasks directly within documents. Analysts at Morgan Stanley noted that Microsoft's growth in this segment has significantly exceeded market expectations. As AI advances from basic conversation to autonomous agent capabilities, Microsoft is working to reinforce its early lead in the enterprise AI market by redefining productivity workflows.
