BMC Aims to Lead as Orchestrator for Enterprise Agentic AI
According to McKinsey, agentic AI represents a path to "escape the generative AI paradox." The consulting firm's research indicates that while nearly 80% of companies are using generative AI, very few are realizing tangible bottom-line value from it.
The solution to unlocking this value likely lies in orchestration. As a July CIO.com article suggests, some experts view this orchestration function as the critical moment "when agents become truly agentic."
This is precisely the opportunity BMC identified for its Control-M platform. Control-M enables organizations to automate the scheduling and execution of business workflows across diverse platforms and applications from a single, centralized control point. BMC was recently recognized as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Service Orchestration and Automation Platforms.
BMC's Director of Solutions Marketing, Basil Faruqui, describes Control-M as the "orchestrator of orchestrators," connecting multiple tools seamlessly. Faruqui predicts this orchestration will evolve from managing applications and APIs to managing AI agents, potentially within the next 12 to 24 months.
Take Salesforce's Agentforce, for instance, which it bills as a "digital labor platform" providing visibility and control over scaling AI agents. For Faruqui, this direction is undeniable. "Whether it's a data warehouse, a CRM like Salesforce or SAP, all these systems will automate their functions using agentic AI," he states. "[The orchestrator's role] will change; it will focus on automating and connecting agents across different systems.
"That's where we envision our future in this emerging 'agent economy'," Faruqui adds. "We see Control-M playing the crucial role of orchestrating agents across the entire enterprise ecosystem."
Faruqui cites a recent discussion with the CTO of a major healthcare organization processing over $10 billion in claims monthly. The CTO found initial testing of generative AI and LLMs "transformative," with the potential to reduce claims processing times by "orders of magnitude." However, as Faruqui points out, enterprise technology only delivers value when it's in production—and operational and governance hurdles remain significant barriers. Orchestration, he argues, is key to bridging this gap.
Another encouraging trend Faruqui—who is speaking at the AI & Big Data Expo Europe later this month—notes is the level of investment. "Sponsorship for many of these projects isn't just at the CIO or CTO level anymore; it's coming directly from the board," he observes. "In some cases, companies are beginning to report on their AI initiatives' progress in their letters to shareholders.
"This will move rapidly, which means vendors must be ready not in three years, but within six months," says Faruqui. "At BMC, we are pursuing a bold vision where this agent economy truly takes flight, and orchestration is the essential vehicle for driving tangible business outcomes."
