A recent breakthrough from the Artificial Intelligence and Microstructure Laboratory (AIMS Lab) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University has caught the industry's attention. Founded by Professor Li Jinjin, a tech company is now pushing AI beyond text generation and image processing into noisy, oil-stained factory floors. Unlike popular chatbots, this "AI Master" specializes in generating time-series industrial production curves, dynamically refining production processes through closed-loop control.
This technology has already shown strong results in biopharmaceuticals. In Chuanning Bio's fermentation project, traditional manual methods often struggled to manage precise temperature and pressure in massive fermentation tanks—some holding hundreds of tons, with highly complex metabolic processes. After nine months of on-site research, the team trained an AI model that predicts fermentation dynamics 180 hours in advance with 99.9% accuracy. With real-time AI intervention, average fermentation tank yields increased by 3–5%, and production fluctuations dropped by half.
Beyond biomanufacturing, the "AI Master" is rapidly expanding into other industries. In heavy manufacturing, the AI artisan can generate a CAD drawing in just 3 seconds. In architectural design, AI-assisted steel tower parameter design has boosted production efficiency by over 85%. From tool management and textile pattern creation to smart scheduling, this large model is becoming a versatile "all-round engineer" across sectors.
To tackle the "last mile" of AI deployment, a new training model called FDE (Frontier Deployment Engineer) has emerged in Shanghai. These engineers no longer stay confined to labs—they work directly on factory floors, adjusting models to fit real business workflows. This "Shanghai R&D, nationwide empowerment" approach keeps enterprise data secure while letting AI evolve continuously through real-world feedback and iteration, much like a living system.
Today, this AI platform has been deployed in dozens of listed companies, generating tens of millions of yuan in economic value.
