Yushu Technology Secures Patent for Mobile Robot with Semi-Elliptical Full-View Perception

Unitree has announced that its patent application for "A Mobile Robot" has been officially granted. The invention is credited to the company's founder, Wang Xingxing, along with Wang Kai. This patent approval represents a key technological advancement for Unitree in streamlining mobile robot perception systems, optimizing hardware expenses, and enhancing data processing efficiency.
As outlined in the patent abstract, this mobile robot features a distinct industrial design: its body takes the form of a vertically oriented semi-ellipsoid, narrower at the top and wider at the base. The core innovation is a wide-angle LiDAR module mounted at the top of the body, with its installation height precisely aligned so that its projection coincides with the body's geometric center.
This novel structural design addresses the high costs and substantial computational demands associated with traditional mobile robots that rely on multiple sensors. By integrating the semi-ellipsoidal body with the top-positioned wide-angle radar, the robot achieves extensive and accurate environmental awareness using only a single LiDAR unit. This approach not only lowers the overall manufacturing cost but also eliminates the complexities of timestamp synchronization and data redundancy common in multi-sensor fusion processes, thereby significantly reducing the computational load on the backend system.
