OpenAI Launches AI Consulting Firm, Big Players Enter Delivery Services
On Monday, OpenAI, a prominent player in artificial intelligence, announced the launch of a consulting subsidiary named 'OpenAI Deployment Co.' (DeployCo). The new company aims to help businesses navigate technical implementation hurdles and directly assist clients in building and deploying sophisticated AI systems.
To quickly bolster its practical expertise, OpenAI also confirmed the acquisition of Tomoro, an AI consulting and engineering firm focused on applications. As a result, roughly 150 senior engineers will join the new subsidiary and offer on-site technical support directly at enterprise client sites.

Rivaling Industry Giants, Strengthening Implementation Services
This move is widely viewed as a direct challenge to rival Anthropic, which recently formed similar deployment teams with several Wall Street financial institutions. OpenAI is clearly aiming to carve out a share of the high-margin market traditionally dominated by consulting giants like Accenture and Deloitte by adopting this deep-integration strategy.
Analysts note that OpenAI's strategy mirrors Palantir's 'frontline deployment engineer' model. By stationing technical staff directly within customer environments, the company can better address the internal expertise gaps that enterprises often encounter during AI deployment.
Facing Integration Challenges, Pursuing Business Growth
Although DeployCo starts with over $4 billion in operating capital and backing from investment firms like Bain Capital, its path forward is not without hurdles. Industry experts worry that as a model developer, OpenAI might face risks of product commoditization and vendor lock-in when offering consulting services.
Moreover, managing competitive dynamics with existing ecosystem partners while engaging in consulting work presents another challenge for OpenAI. Yet, as the AI industry enters a critical phase of 'value monetization,' getting closer to enterprise operations has become an essential move for major players seeking to unlock commercial value.
