Multiverse Computing, a Spanish AI startup, is tackling the key challenges of large language models—their size and high deployment costs. With its unique "compression technology," the company aims to disrupt the enterprise AI market and compete with giants like OpenAI.
Core Technology: Packing a 60B Model into Just 32GB
Multiverse's edge comes from its compression technology, CompactifAI, which draws inspiration from quantum computing. This innovation enabled the company to shrink its HyperNova60B model—based on an OpenAI prototype (gpt-oss-120b)—to half its original size.
Its latest release, HyperNova60B2602, is now freely available on Hugging Face. The model requires only 32GB of memory, drastically cutting resource usage and latency while maintaining accuracy nearly identical to the original. It is also specifically optimized for high-cost inference tasks like "tool calls" and "agent encoding." Multiverse states the model now outperforms Mistral AI's flagship model, Mistral Large3, a leading French AI unicorn.

Much like Mistral, Multiverse is emerging as a standard-bearer for Europe's independent AI capabilities. The company currently operates across Europe and the Americas and has secured backing from major players such as Bosch, Iberdrola, and the Bank of Canada.
This "sovereign AI" focus has also attracted government support. The Spanish Agency for Technological Transition (SETT) participated in its recent $215 million Series B funding round. By offering a full-stack AI solution developed independently, Multiverse is quickly meeting market demand for alternatives to U.S.-dominated technology.
Soaring Valuation: On Track for a €1.5 Billion Unicorn Status
While Multiverse remains tight-lipped about market speculation, insiders report the company is in talks for a new round of funding worth around €500 million, which would value it at over €1.5 billion.
Its annual recurring revenue (ARR) is estimated at approximately €100 million. Although this is still far from OpenAI's $20 billion, it is approaching Mistral's €400 million level. With plans to open-source more compressed models by 2026, this Basque startup is strongly positioned to become Spain's first AI unicorn.
