Micro1 Revenue Hits $5B in 8 Months as AI Training Data Demand Surges

As top AI labs and enterprises increasingly prioritize high-quality training data, data labeling startups are experiencing rapid expansion. Micro1, established four years ago, has accelerated its annualized revenue from $100 million to $500 million in just eight months, according to industry sources. With a typical revenue retention rate of 60% to 70%, the company generates an estimated annual net income between $150 million and $200 million.
Although Micro1 remains smaller than competitors like Mercor and Handshake, which reported annualized revenues of $2 billion and $1 billion respectively this year, its growth trajectory highlights a massive market for AI training data capable of sustaining multiple players. Some experts predict that future AI data expenditures could eventually match the scale of computing power investments.
Micro1 is scaling synthetic data production by automatically generating video descriptions, allowing certain datasets to be resold to multiple clients. This approach yields gross margins of 80% to 90% for ready-made data. However, the practice has raised ethical concerns regarding potential data leakage to Chinese AI developers, which could boost their model performance. Founder Ali Ansari has explicitly stated that Micro1 will not sell data to Chinese model developers.
Originally launched as an AI recruitment platform, Micro1 pivoted to the training data sector after observing clients using its tools to vet data labelers. Today, the company employs experts to evaluate model outputs and conduct reinforcement learning training. It is also developing a robot pre-training dataset, leveraging hundreds of regular users to record interactions with everyday objects.
In September 2025, Micro1 closed its Series A funding round at a $500 million valuation. Reports suggest the company may secure another funding round soon, potentially driving its valuation significantly higher.
