Cognex Unveils AI-Powered Vision System for Robotics

Cognex Corp. has launched the In-Sight 3900 Vision System this week. This fully integrated vision system is engineered to provide exceptional speed, accuracy, and resolution at the edge. According to the company, it allows manufacturers to perform rigorous inspections without compromising throughput or operational simplicity.
“The In-Sight 3900 marks a significant advancement in embedded AI vision capabilities for the factory floor,” said Matt Moschner, President and CEO of Cognex. “Manufacturers are no longer forced to choose between inspection depth and production line speed. We've developed a system that delivers both, maintaining the reliability and ease of use synonymous with Cognex.”
The latest system is built on a new generation of Cognex's embedded AI vision technology, utilizing Qualcomm Dragonwing platforms. Cognex states that the In-Sight 3900 removes the conventional compromise between inspection depth and line speed associated with older vision systems.
By integrating Cognex-developed edge AI, advanced AI, and rule-based vision tools with high-performance embedded computing, the system enables deterministic, real-time inspections at full production speed. It is designed for next-generation applications in packaging, automotive, electronics, and consumer goods.
“Our packaging lines operate at extremely high speeds, which previously restricted us to traditional OCR tools,” explained Andrea Sabbadini, Engineering Manager at Fuji Seal. “The In-Sight 3900 now enables us to implement Cognex's Edge AI Read tools at full production velocity without sacrificing throughput. This leads to a more robust inspection process that is quicker to set up and easier to maintain across our operations.”

4X faster processing at scale: The In-Sight 3900 performs inspections up to four times faster than previous-generation Cognex vision systems. It maximizes line rates and eliminates bottlenecks in high-volume production.High-resolution imaging up to 25 MP: Supporting resolutions up to 25 megapixels, the system offers wider fields of view, more precise measurements, and enhanced defect detection—all within a single image capture.Real-time, high-throughput edge execution: Embedded AI acceleration and optimized processing pipelines ensure deterministic, real-time inspection that synchronizes with high-speed production lines.Industrial-grade connectivity: A dual Ethernet architecture guarantees reliable communication with PLCs, robots, and enterprise systems.Cognex built the In-Sight 3900 on its latest embedded AI architecture. The platform includes a dedicated, high-performance AI processor for rapid, deterministic decision-making directly at the edge.
The In-Sight 3900 supports edge AI tools for swift deployment and stable inspections, advanced AI tools for complex and variable applications, and PC-free operation to simplify validation, deployment, and lifecycle management.
