AI² Robotics has secured approximately $735 million in a new financing round, elevating its valuation beyond 50 billion RMB (roughly $2.8 billion USD). This capital injection solidifies the Shenzhen-based firm’s position as a key player in China’s rapidly evolving physical AI landscape.
The broad investor base for AI² Robotics’ latest round underscores the strategic value assigned to this technology, attracting capital from state-backed entities, industrial conglomerates, and financial institutions. Backers include government funds such as the National Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund, corporate partners ranging from Sino Biopharmaceutical to the Moutai Group, and financial firms like CICC Capital and GSR Ventures.
AI² Robotics develops a wheeled mobile manipulator featuring a humanoid torso and dexterous five-fingered hands. By choosing a wheeled base over legged locomotion, the company aligns itself with a minority of Chinese firms focusing on humanoid-style robotics.
The system boasts over 34 degrees of freedom and a custom waist-leg lifting mechanism that adjusts the upper torso’s height across various positions. Although the robot cannot navigate stairs or rough terrain, it offers significantly lower production costs, greater mechanical durability, and fewer regulatory barriers for deployment in public spaces.
AI2 Robotics builds Alpha Brain VLA model
Hardware represents only half the challenge. Every AlphaBot runs on Alpha Brain, AI² Robotics’ proprietary vision-language-action (VLA) model. This core software manages real-time spatial reasoning, environmental comprehension, and complex, multi-step task planning.
Rather than waiting for a distant consumer market, AI² Robotics is actively deploying AlphaBot 2 in structured, practical environments where its wheel-and-arm configuration excels: logistics, manufacturing, biotech, public services, and retail.
The company is focusing on industrial applications and deliberately avoiding the hype surrounding immediate consumer or household use cases.
This funding announcement follows other recent developments in the humanoid sector, including Agility’s pending IPO, funding rounds for Apptronik and Neura, and Bear Robotics’ acquisition of Kinisi Robotics.
