For over two decades, we've been diving deep into machine learning and AI, crafting tools and building the tech that makes life a bit easier for everyone. From healthcare to crisis response and education, our teams at Google are on a mission to harness AI's potential. We're keeping you in the loop with a regular rundown of our latest AI developments across products, research, and beyond.
Let's take a quick peek at some of our AI highlights from November.
AI's sparking a whole new era of discovery. Sure, scientific progress often feels like it's racing ahead, but truth be told, it's been slowing down for years. That's where Google DeepMind and the Royal Society stepped in this month, hosting the inaugural AI for Science Forum. It was all about exploring how AI can turbocharge scientific advancements and tackle some of the world's toughest challenges. We're talking about breakthroughs in medicine, new energy sources, and solutions that benefit everyone. And it's not just about the science; it's also about how policy and tech can work together to make these dreams a reality.
We also shared how we're approaching learning in this AI age. Since day one, we've been all about helping folks explore and understand the world. Now, with AI, we're pushing the boundaries even further, making learning more engaging and interactive. In November, we gathered leaders from education and tech for our Learning in the AI Era event. We dove into tools like Learn About and NotebookLM, and introduced LearnLM, which is making waves for its potential to do good in the world. It's now available for a sneak peek through Google AI Studio.
We rolled out new ways to make holiday shopping a breeze. Shopping, whether in-store or online, is getting a major AI upgrade. Take Google Lens, for instance—it's powering nearly 20 billion visual searches monthly, with a fifth of those being shopping-related. Snap a pic in a store, and you can instantly check reviews, prices, and where to buy locally. And this holiday season, you'll be able to search for products right in Maps to find nearby stores.
We brought the Gemini app to iPhone users. Gemini's not just another app; it's a powerhouse for learning and your go-to AI assistant. We made it available on iPhone in November, so you can have natural, flowing chats with Gemini Live and tap into Google's AI assistant features. Plus, you get to enjoy Gemini's stunning AI image creation, and connect seamlessly with your favorite Google apps like YouTube, Maps, Calendar, and Gmail—all from one conversation on your iPhone.
We updated our AI flood forecasting model and expanded it to 100 countries. Floods can be devastating, causing loss of life, displacement, and huge financial damage. To help, we released a new AI-powered flood forecasting model, covering areas where 700 million people live. We're also sharing our flood datasets with researchers and partners to find even more ways to save lives and respond to disasters.
We launched GenChess at the World Chess Championship. This cool new AI experiment from our Google Labs team is a nod to one of the world's most beloved games. With GenChess, you can whip up your own custom chess sets using just a prompt, thanks to our top-notch image generation model, Imagen 3, and Gemini Flash. Once you've got your unique set, you're all set to play online.
AI's also tackling one of quantum computing's toughest challenges. Quantum computers are like nothing else, capable of solving problems that classical computers can't even touch. But they're prone to errors, and that's where our Google Quantum AI team and Google DeepMind come in. They introduced AlphaQubit, an AI-based decoder that spots quantum errors with top-notch precision. This could seriously boost quantum computers' error correction, paving the way for groundbreaking discoveries across many fields.

Google's been at it for over two decades with AI, and it shows! From healthcare to education, they're making a real difference. But sometimes, the updates feel a bit overwhelming. Can't they slow down a bit? Still, gotta appreciate the effort to keep us in the loop!

This app keeps me updated on Google's AI advancements, which is cool, but sometimes the news feels a bit too tech-heavy for my taste. I wish they'd simplify it a bit more for non-techies like me. Still, it's great to see what's happening in AI!
