Quora's AI chatbot platform Poe offers bot creators cash for each user message

Quora's AI chatbot platform, Poe, has introduced a fresh way for bot creators to earn money, announced by CEO Adam D'Angelo on Monday. Now, creators can set their desired earnings per message when users engage with their bots. This new system is part of Poe's effort to help developers recoup their costs, including high API fees, by sharing revenue.
The system operates on a point-based mechanism. Free Poe users get 3,000 points daily, with each message costing 20 points. Creators can monitor the points their bots accumulate and convert these into USD. Currently, this opportunity is limited to US creators, but Quora aims to expand it globally soon.
D'Angelo envisions that the revenue from this program will assist creators in building custom knowledge bases, enhancing their bots' capabilities. He anticipates earnings from bots that specialize in areas like tutoring, knowledge assistance, analysis, storytelling, and image generation.
Tracking Earnings and Usage
To aid bot creators in managing their earnings, subscriptions, and messages, Quora has introduced a Poe analytics dashboard. This tool provides insights into how the pricing set by creators impacts both bot usage and revenue, helping them fine-tune their strategies.
Expanding Monetization Opportunities
In addition to the per-message revenue model, Poe offers other monetization avenues through its Creator Monetization program. By joining this program, creators can share in Poe's overall revenue from user subscriptions and message interactions. Earnings can reach up to $100 per subscriber and another $100 for every 1,000 messages sent. D'Angelo views the per-message pricing as a pivotal advancement in Poe's mission to foster a diverse and thriving AI product economy.
Getting Started with Poe
Those interested in developing a bot on Poe should start by visiting the "Welcome to Poe for Creators" page. Poe supports the creation of two bot types: prompt bots and server bots. Prompt bots leverage existing AI models like GPT-4 or Llama 2, providing responses via plain-text instructions. Server bots, on the other hand, utilize a custom backend to execute specific code for each user message, offering more tailored interactions.

Interesting, I’ve been wondering if this means AI bot creation could be the new ‘side hustle’ for devs! 50% chance I get this in English apparently lol. I do get the vibe that platforms like this encourage quantity over quality though, hope that’s not the case with Poe. Will try to see if some cool original bots pop up!
¡Qué idea tan genial la de Poe! Me encanta que los creadores puedan ganar dinero por cada mensaje. Es como si tu bot fuera un pequeño negocio digital. 😎 ¿Crees que esto hará que surjan bots más creativos o solo más spam?
