OpenAI Unveils GPT-6Astra, Marking AGI Era with Breakthroughs in Performance and Security
OpenAI unveiled GPT-6Astra on September 3, describing the new large language model as a transformative leap for software engineering, professional workflows, scientific research, and cybersecurity. Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president, declared at the launch event that Astra ushers in the era of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

Before its public release, the internal version of Astra resolved ten persistent challenges in mathematics and theoretical computer science. It also demonstrated major advancements in agent-based coding and cybersecurity, becoming the first OpenAI model to hit the critical security threshold defined in its readiness framework.
Astra’s technical performance and benchmark results show a generational leap over previous models and competitors. It scored 98.6% on the ARC-AGI-3 test, vastly outperforming GPT-5.6Sol (7.8%) and Claude Opus5 (30.2%). In FrontierMath Tier4(v2), Astra achieved 97.6%, maintaining a strong lead over other models. It also topped several other benchmarks, including GPQA Diamond (96%), DeepSWE v1.1 (74.1%), Terminal-Bench Science0.1 (64.6%), Agents' Last Exam (59.3%), and AutomationBench (41.4%).
The model’s security infrastructure has also been significantly upgraded. New monitoring tools prevent unauthorized actions, and the system is now more reliable at rejecting malicious network requests.

GPT-6Astra is currently available to enterprise cybersecurity clients via the OpenAI Daybreak program, with core security features restricted to trusted users. Over the coming days, access will expand to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers. Priced at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, Astra matches the cost structure of Anthropic’s Claude Fable5.1. This commercial rollout marks a major milestone in AI evolution, raising the bar for advanced agent deployment and reshaping competition among high-compute, high-security models.
