Meituan Guangnian Zhi Wai Addresses AI Browser Code Dispute: Projects Pulled and Source Fully Released

The team behind Meituan's Guangnian Zhiwai (GN06) has officially addressed the code dispute concerning its new AI browser, Tabbit. They announced that the contentious translation module has been removed from the latest release and the code has been fully open-sourced as a contribution to the community. The issue arose following Tabbit AI browser's public beta, when developers alleged that portions of its translation code may have been copied from the open-source project "Read-Frog."

An official internal review revealed that the technical team forked the read-frog repository on December 30, 2025, at a time when the project had not declared any specific open-source license. The original author subsequently added the GPLv3 license to the project on January 2, 2026, via Commit a0679e2. However, because Meituan's team did not continuously sync with the upstream repository, they were not promptly aware of this license change. While the fork occurred prior to the license's formal application, Meituan has reiterated its full respect for the original author's copyright. The relevant code has now been entirely open-sourced as a standalone project on GitHub for public and industry scrutiny.

This event highlights the intricate compliance challenges large corporations encounter in managing their open-source supply chains while pursuing rapid AI product development.
