Google Unveils Android XR Smart Glasses, Partners with Warby Parker
Google challenges Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta glasses with new collaborations announced at Google I/O 2025, teaming up with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to develop smart glasses powered by Android XR.
Google introduced the Android XR platform alongside Qualcomm and Samsung last year. While specific devices were not detailed initially, the recent announcement reveals plans to create various glasses and headsets with multiple partners.
On Tuesday, Google also expanded its collaboration with Samsung for XR glasses, stating that both companies are working on software and hardware reference platforms to enable developers to create innovative solutions.
In 2023, Samsung, Qualcomm, and Google revealed a mixed reality initiative. Samsung later introduced Project Moohan, a headset slated for release later this year, according to Google.
At I/O, Google showcased prototype glasses built on the Android XR platform, enhanced by Gemini AI. These glasses feature a camera, microphone, speakers, and an optional lens display for notifications, similar to Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
Google demonstrated various applications, including messaging, navigation, appointment scheduling, real-time translations, and photography. The company is distributing units to select testers to collect feedback.

Google's jumping into the smart glasses game with Warby Parker? That's a bold move! I’m curious if these will actually look stylish or just scream 'tech bro.' Hope they nail the design! 😎

Super cool that Google’s jumping back into smart glasses with Warby Parker! 😎 Love the style focus, but I’m curious how Gemini AI will stack up against Meta’s Ray-Bans in real life.
