Google rolls out Gemini in Chrome to India
On Wednesday, Google announced it is expanding Gemini integration for Chrome to new regions, including India, Canada, and New Zealand. This rollout allows desktop users to access Gemini via a sidebar, where they can ask Google’s AI chatbot about on-screen content, retrieve information from Gmail, Keep, Drive, and YouTube, and compare tab contents.
Alongside this expansion, Gemini will also support Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, in addition to English and other recently added Chrome languages.

Google first launched Gemini in Chrome for U.S. users last September via a floating window. Earlier this year, the company introduced sidebar-based Gemini tools.
Users with access to this feature will see an “Ask Gemini” icon on the tab bar. Activating it for any tab allows them to ask questions, summarize content, or generate a quiz to understand a topic. Google notes that Gemini can work across tabs, meaning you can reference multiple tabs to receive an answer — useful when comparing products for shopping or tickets for a trip.
Gemini also connects with various tools to access your information and deliver more personalized responses. It can link to Gmail, Maps, Calendar, YouTube, and other Google apps for context-aware answers. For example, you can compose and send an email directly from the Chrome sidebar using Gemini without leaving the current window. You can also ask it to summarize a YouTube video with key points and timestamps. Additionally, the assistant can schedule meetings or give you a daily briefing.

Users can also leverage Google’s Nano Banana 2 generative AI tool directly within Gemini for Chrome to transform images. For example, when buying furniture, you can upload a photo of your room and ask the assistant to transform it to see how a piece of furniture would look in that space.

The company also stated that, in addition to desktop, it is rolling out Gemini support in Chrome for iOS in India. When available, the option will appear in the address bar via a page tools icon.

In January, Google introduced enhanced agentic capabilities that can take over your browser and perform tasks on your behalf for AI Pro and AI Ultra users in the U.S. The company is excluding this feature from the latest expansion for users in India, New Zealand, and Canada.
