The rise of “vibe coding” has led AI agents to produce a massive volume of code that companies now find challenging to handle. This surge is often referred to as “code overload.” Research indicates that AI-generated code can bring serious issues—such as bugs and quality defects—into codebases, requiring senior engineers to fix them before the code can be released.
A new company now aims to solve this issue by leveraging the very technology that created it: AI.
Gitar, a startup founded by Ali-Reza Adl-Tabatabai—a veteran of Intel Labs, Google, and Uber—came out of stealth mode on Wednesday with $9 million in funding, led by Venrock and joined by Sierra Ventures.
Founded two years ago, Gitar offers a subscription-based platform that uses AI agents to perform various code-quality tasks, such as code reviews and managing continuous integration workflows—the automated process of regularly merging and testing code changes to maintain a stable and current codebase. The platform also enables engineering teams to build their own agents, which can then handle security and maintenance operations.
AI-generated code leads to “more code to review, more tests to write, more CI failures to diagnose,” CEO Adl-Tabatabai told TechCrunch. He described Gitar’s function as “code validation”—a process that ensures whatever is being built inside a company is ready for release. “Generation produces code; validation makes it trustworthy. Gitar is the workflow agent that owns that process, orchestrating reviews, tests, and diagnostics end to end,” he added.
Looking ahead, Adl-Tabatabai envisions automation playing an even broader role in software development. “Right now, code shipped to production involves human review, and for good reason. You want oversight, and humans verify that nothing harmful is being shipped.”
He envisions human code reviews becoming a minimal part of the workflow, as companies rely on Gitar’s platform to handle these tasks and accelerate releases. “We have a validation agent that can automatically ensure your code is safe to ship, involving humans only in exceptional cases,” Adl-Tabatabai stated.
Many other companies already compete in the automated code-review arena, but Gitar aims to stand out by concentrating solely on this challenge. “Most of the market chased generation. We didn’t,” Adl-Tabatabai said. “Gitar is built around what happens after code is written.”
The fresh capital will be used to expand Gitar’s engineering and product teams, while the San Mateo-based company continues to develop the systems needed to deliver its services at scale.
