Didi AI Travel Assistant User Base Soars 37-Fold; Qingming Holiday Challenges Intelligent Scheduling
Didi Chuxing recently reported that its AI travel assistant, Xiao Di, has seen a massive surge in users. Active users jumped 37 times compared to the start of the year in the past week alone, with over 40% of them from the post-2000 generation. As the Qingming holiday approaches, Didi expects ride-hailing demand to spike earlier on April 3, starting at 4:00 PM, with trips to transportation hubs rising 239% year over year. Inter-city travel demand is also predicted to grow by nearly 40%. To handle these complex holiday travel patterns, Didi has leveraged AI to shift its focus from simply getting a ride to getting the right ride.

Xiao Di now integrates over 90 service tags, enabling users to make complex travel decisions through natural language. Simply input your schedule or flight info, and the AI calculates the optimal departure time using real-time traffic and estimated arrival times, while also matching you with large trunk vehicles or drivers known for local knowledge. This personalized scheduling, powered by large models, goes beyond basic 'fast and affordable' needs—it caters to deeper preferences like fresh air or long-distance comfort through detailed tags. To ensure safety and efficiency during high-demand periods, Didi has rolled out incentive programs and real-time fatigue warning systems in more than 300 cities nationwide.
As large language models increasingly merge with travel scenarios, the ride-hailing industry is moving from traffic-based competition to one driven by AI efficiency and user experience. Didi's recent growth highlights how younger users are embracing intelligent interaction, and signals a shift for AI assistants from simple info queries to a core infrastructure for managing complex, cross-time travel decisions.
