Recently, at the 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple officially unveiled its next-generation AI technology, Siri AI. However, shortly after the event, Apple released a statement reiterating that the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA) is the reason the new Siri won't launch across all platforms in the European Union.
Regulatory Interpretation Sparks Deep Disagreements
In its statement, Apple explained that the new Siri AI was built with user privacy as its top priority, leveraging edge computing and private cloud technologies to keep user data secure. However, EU regulators have taken an extremely strict view of the DMA, creating irreconcilable differences between Apple and European authorities on data security.
Under current EU regulations, if Apple wants to deploy this technology in the region, it must allow any third-party virtual assistant to directly access users' private data. Moreover, third-party AI would also need the authority to directly control other installed applications within the system. Apple argues that this completely undermines its core principle of protecting user privacy.
Obstacles Ahead for Multi-Platform Launch in Europe
As a result of this policy, while the English version of Siri AI is set for official release later this year, users in the EU won't be able to experience the full Apple Intelligence update right away. In the initial phase, only the macOS, watchOS, and visionOS platforms in the European market will receive partial update support.
