AI startup giant Anthropic PBC is in early-stage talks with investors about raising at least $30 billion in a new funding round. Sources say the company behind the popular Claude series of large language models is considering a deal at a pre-money valuation exceeding $90 billion, which would mark not only its largest fundraising to date but also potentially set a new record for the valuation of global AI startups. The round could close as early as late May, though final terms have not been signed, and market enthusiasm remains strong.
With rising global AI infrastructure costs, Anthropic is accelerating fundraising to cover significant compute expenses and support growing product demand. Earlier reports indicated the company may pursue an initial public offering (IPO) as early as October. Meanwhile, Anthropic has recently received multiple proactive inquiries from investors and secured two key financing agreements with major technology firms.
Notably, industry leader OpenAI was valued at roughly $85 billion in March. If Anthropic’s latest round proceeds at the expected valuation, its market position could rival or surpass OpenAI in value. This valuation leap reflects the market’s high premium on technological breakthroughs and commercialization potential among top large-model developers in the generative AI race, while also signaling that industry resources will continue to concentrate among leading companies with full-stack R&D capabilities.
