Anthropic Quietly Hikes Claude Code Pricing, Developer Daily Fees Double
Cost pressures in AI programming are becoming increasingly apparent. Anthropic, a leading AI company, recently adjusted the pricing of its AI coding tool, Claude Code, without any official announcement. According to newly released data on the company's website, the token consumption cost for the tool has now doubled compared to earlier estimates.
In a recent enterprise deployment statement, Anthropic reported that the average daily cost per developer is now around $13. Prior to April 16th, the official figure was just $6. This means frequent users have seen their daily expenses climb from roughly 40 RMB to over 90 RMB.

Is the Subscription Model No Longer Viable? Officials Say Usage Exceeded Expectations
Beyond daily cost variations, Anthropic also shared a new monthly cost estimate. Developers can now expect to spend between $150 and $250 per month, with around 90% of users keeping daily costs under $30 — still significantly above the earlier $12 cap.
Commenting on the price change, Anthropic's Chief Growth Officer Amol Avasare acknowledged that the existing subscription plans no longer fit current user engagement. He noted that subscriber activity has surged recently, rendering the original pricing model unsustainable. To manage the unexpectedly high usage, Anthropic initially tried weekly limits and stricter peak-hour restrictions, but ultimately opted to adjust billing costs directly.
Industry Competition Heats Up: Advanced Programming Models Become a Cost Drain
Claude Code's price hike is not an isolated incident; it mirrors the broader cost challenges across the AI industry. As models extend into advanced coding domains, heavy context processing and high computational expenses are pushing companies to rethink their pricing strategies.
