Amazon AWS Unveils Medical AI Assistant Platform at $99 Monthly Fee
On Thursday, Amazon Web Services (AWS) unveiled a new platform built specifically for the healthcare sector: Amazon Connect Health. This platform leverages AI agents to automate routine administrative work, including appointment scheduling, medical record management, and patient verification. This launch represents a significant move for Amazon into the $5 trillion U.S. healthcare market.
Amazon Connect Health is HIPAA-compliant and integrates smoothly with major electronic health record (EHR) systems. Its primary benefit is alleviating the administrative load on clinical staff. The platform currently provides patient identity verification and ambient documentation capabilities. Features for appointment scheduling and patient information analysis are in preview, with advanced functionalities like medical coding coming soon.
For pricing, Amazon has introduced a highly competitive subscription model: $99 per user per month, covering up to 600 patient visits monthly. AWS points out that this cap is well above the average of 300 monthly visits for most primary care physicians.
The medical AI space is growing increasingly competitive. As AWS enters the fray, other Silicon Valley giants are also advancing their strategies:
OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Health for consumers in January 2026.
Anthropic responded with Claude for Healthcare, which offers guidance to patients alongside specialized tools for healthcare providers.
Unlike general-purpose AI chatbots, Amazon's approach emphasizes integrating into healthcare workflows through B2B infrastructure. Combined with its earlier acquisitions of the One Medical clinic network and PillPack online pharmacy, Amazon is constructing a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem that spans from cloud computing resources to direct patient care.
