On May 26, Xiaomi Group Chairman Lei Jun unveiled the company’s latest research and development initiatives alongside its artificial intelligence strategy. According to the data, Xiaomi’s R&D spending in Q1 2026 hit 9 billion yuan, marking a 33.4% year-over-year increase. The firm’s R&D workforce now stands at 26,048, with annual R&D expenditure projected to surpass 40 billion yuan.
Regarding technological milestones, Xiaomi’s proprietary large language model, MiMo-V2.5-Pro, has been recognized by the international authority Artificial Analysis. It secured the top global ranking among open-source models in two key metrics: the overall intelligence index and the Agent index. Leveraging this breakthrough, Lei Jun announced that Xiaomi will allocate 60 billion yuan to AI investments over the next three years.
