Women surpass 50% of ChatGPT users for first time, total base approaches 1 billion

OpenAI’s latest data reveals a major gender shift among ChatGPT users. When the platform launched in 2022, roughly 80% of users were male and only 20% female. Now, women account for over half of all users, surpassing their male counterparts.
Based on ChatGPT’s current weekly active user base, this means nearly 500 million women worldwide regularly use the tool, while the overall user count is approaching 1 billion.
Meanwhile, OpenAI’s computing power is expanding rapidly—from 0.2 gigawatts in 2023 to roughly 1.9 gigawatts in 2025, nearly tripling annually over two years. Looking ahead, OpenAI has signed agreements with partners like NVIDIA for over 30 gigawatts of capacity, aiming to reach 30 gigawatts by 2030 and secure the infrastructure edge for the next phase of AI competition.
