WeChat Pay launches Smart Glasses SDK; Rokid becomes first compatible brand
WeChat has officially launched the WeChat Pay smart glasses SDK, making it fully accessible. This solution integrates WeChat’s core “scan to pay” functionality into a standard SDK, available to smart glasses manufacturers meeting specific standards. This enables users to complete payments seamlessly directly on compatible smart glasses. Currently, the Rokid Leqi AI glasses are the first product to complete adaptation and go live.

Activation and Daily Payment Process
To use the smart glasses’ scan-to-pay feature for the first time, users must apply for activation via the manufacturer’s phone app. They will then be redirected to a WeChat mini program to verify their payment password. Upon successful verification, the smart glasses are officially linked to the user’s WeChat account.
After initial binding, the daily payment process involves four simple steps:
Activation: Users simply say “WeChat scan” to activate the feature.
Scanning: Point your gaze at the merchant’s payment QR code.
Confirmation: Review the merchant and amount details on the glasses screen, then slide the temple arm to confirm the payment.
Result: Once the payment is successful, the glasses screen displays the result in real time, accompanied by a voice notification.
WeChat clarified that this is not a new payment method but rather an extension of WeChat Pay’s existing “scan to pay” capability. Users do not need to learn new operations or register for new accounts.
Safety Mechanisms and Functional Limits
For security and fund risk control, WeChat scan-to-pay on smart glasses operates under a small-payment model. The basic version currently supports a daily spending limit of 200 yuan. Devices equipped with iris or fingerprint identification can enjoy higher limits. During use, the smart glasses must remain connected to the mobile WeChat app, and funds are only deducted after the user actively slides the temple arm to confirm.
Regarding applicable scenarios, the SDK currently supports only scanning payment codes, including face-to-face codes, individual business codes, and aggregated codes from major service providers and banks. It is primarily designed for high-frequency, small-scale daily transactions such as those in convenience stores, vegetable markets, and roadside stalls. However, the SDK does not yet support scanning mini program codes, adding friends, identifying items, jumping to mini programs, or scanning to rent equipment.
