Wang Xingxing, CEO of Unitree, targets world model breakthroughs to help humanoid machines execute 80% of tasks when placed in unfamiliar homes
As the robotics sector moves past scripted performances, Chinese humanoid unicorn Unitree is racing ahead to solve real-world cognitive adaptability.
While the global expansion of gen AI began in late 2022 following the release of ChatGPT, physical AI simulation systems designed for environmental navigation are yet to achieve an equivalent operational milestone.
Talking at a major robot conference in Beijing, Wang Xingxing, the company’s CEO, says: “We are marching towards a ‘ChatGPT moment’ in embodied intelligence.”

Wang explains that physical AI models are approaching a critical tipping point, hoping that machines will eventually accomplish approximately 80% of domestic tasks via simple voice or text instructions when introduced into unfamiliar households.
Achieving this level of general adaptability represents the critical threshold required to unlock explosive commercial growth across global markets.
Projecting software breakthrough
While market enthusiasm surges, software models remain the primary bottleneck in robotic decision-making and real-world interaction. Wang maintains a pragmatic perspective regarding software maturity timeline projections.
He estimates that a major leap in robot software could arrive in two to three years under an optimistic timeline or within five to 10 years at the latest.

Wang He, Founder of robotic startup Galbot, on the other hand, expects the sector to reach its milestone much sooner, that is by 2028.
Speaking to Reuters, he said that continuous data accumulation and architectural breakthroughs are expected to drive this shift.

Despite the advancements made, humanoid machines still remain less efficient than human workers in most active industrial applications. To bridge this gap, Unitree is currently directing its largest capital and manpower investments into world model development.
However, investor enthusiasm for the sector is surging following recent public market activity as shares in Unitree rose nearly six-fold during their Shanghai debut after retail tranches were oversubscribed more than 8,000 times.
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of stablecoin firm Tether, told CNBC that Unitree is definitely a company to watch, explaining how the business has staged impressive skill displays in recent years to highlight its robotic precision and dexterity.

Global trade challenges impact international scaling
China is leading the game, delivering more than 40,000 humanoids in the first half of 2026, accounting for 97% of global shipments.
The market for human-like robots is expected to grow rapidly, with analysts projecting sales could rise from around US$2bn in 2025 to US$300bn by 2035.
However, international trade obstacles present new challenges for Chinese manufacturers seeking global market expansion.
Key facts
- China dominates physical AI hardware, supplying nearly 97 out of every 100 humanoids shipped globally
- The market for human-like robots is expected to grow rapidly, with analysts projecting a 150-fold expansion in sales by 2035
- Unitree recorded an immediate six-fold price jump on its first day of trading on Shanghai’s STAR Market, climbing up to 629% above its listing price
In July, the US Federal Communications Commission banned future imports of foreign-made humanoid and quadruped robots, citing security concerns.
Despite these regulatory hurdles, several companies at the World Robot Conference in Beijing told Reuters they are actively seeking international expansion.
Ultimately, while China has proven its ability to manufacture humanoid hardware at scale, the true test for market leaders like Unitree will be whether their world models can bridge the gap between physical potential and cognitive reality.
