ServiceNow Acquires Data.World Following Recent Moveworks Acquisition
ServiceNow Doubles Down on AI with Data.World Acquisition
ServiceNow is making big moves in AI—again. Just months after its $2.85 billion acquisition of Moveworks, the enterprise workflow giant has announced another strategic AI-focused purchase: Data.World, a cloud-native data catalog and governance platform.
While the financial details remain under wraps, Data.World was last valued at $350 million in its 2022 Series C funding round. The Austin-based startup, founded in 2015, had previously raised over $130 million from investors like Alumni Ventures, Prologis Ventures, and Shasta Ventures.
Why Data.World?
ServiceNow’s SVP of Data Analytics, Gaurav Rewari, told TechCrunch that the company was on the hunt for partners that could help businesses scale AI effectively. The key challenge? Making enterprise data "AI-ready."
"The path to agentic ‘AI heaven’ goes through some form of data hell," Rewari quipped.
Data.World’s metadata management and knowledge-based infrastructure stood out as a solution. Their platform helps enterprises organize, catalog, and govern vast amounts of data—critical for AI automation and agentic workflows.
"We looked at a bunch of companies and came away so impressed with what they had built," Rewari said. "Their approach to data governance could be an extremely important addition to our portfolio."
A Strategic AI Push
This acquisition follows ServiceNow’s March 2024 purchase of Moveworks, an AI-powered enterprise automation firm, for $2.85 billion. Both deals align with ServiceNow’s broader strategy to lead in agentic AI—where AI systems autonomously execute tasks.
As Philip Kirk, ServiceNow’s SVP of Corporate Business Development, put it earlier this year:
"It’s like playing three-dimensional chess—figuring out whether to build, buy, or partner. Our priority is making decisions that serve our customers long-term and differentiate us in enterprise automation."
What’s Next?
Once the deal closes, Data.World’s platform will be integrated into ServiceNow’s offerings, giving customers enhanced data governance tools to optimize AI performance.

World... Je me demande s'ils ne risquent pas de trop se disperser. Dommage qu'ils n'aient pas communiqué sur le prix cette fois 😏
