SenseTime announced and open-sourced the SenseNova U1 series of native understanding and generation unified models on the 28th. Built on the self-developed NEO-unify architecture introduced in March this year, this model deeply integrates multimodal understanding, reasoning, and generation within a single framework, representing a major shift in the multimodal AI paradigm—from "integrated" to "native unification."
The NEO-unify architecture used by SenseNova U1 completely eliminates the modular design common in mainstream models. By removing the visual encoder (VE) and variational autoencoder (VAE), it creates a unified representation space. This architecture embeds multimodal processing into every computational layer, allowing language and visual information to be modeled as a single composite. It maintains pixel-level visual fidelity while preserving semantic richness. With this technology, the model excels in logical reasoning and spatial intelligence, accurately grasping the complex layouts and intricate relationships of the physical world.
