To gain a stronger foothold in the computing power race, OpenAI is accelerating its strategy to reduce reliance on NVIDIA. On February 12, 2026, OpenAI officially released its first AI model powered by Cerebras Systems chips — GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark.

Designed specifically for software engineers, GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark introduces a more flexible way of working:
Instant Interruption and Switching: Developers can halt long-running computations at any point without delay, then instruct the model to handle other urgent coding tasks immediately.
End-to-End Support: The model helps engineers quickly complete common tasks like editing specific code blocks and running automated tests.
A $10 Billion Bet on Alternative Compute
This launch marks the first major milestone since OpenAI and Cerebras formed a deep partnership.
