HomeNotion Confirms Shutdown of Its AI-Powered Email Service, Notion Mail
Notion has revealed that its AI-powered email client, Notion Mail, will cease operating this fall. Launched in April 2025, this productivity tool was designed to deliver a personalized inbox experience through artificial intelligence. It will gradually suspend service across web, desktop, and iOS platforms after approximately one and a half years of operation.
Per the official schedule, users have had access to data export options for Notion Mail since June 25. September 21 serves as the final deadline for saving personal data, with the service officially shutting down on September 22. Any data that remains unexported at that point will be permanently removed. It’s worth noting that while the standard emails stored in the inbox will stay within Gmail, other elements such as drafts, scheduled messages, custom snippets, and automated tags cannot be transferred automatically and must be exported manually before the deadline expires.
As a platform centered around note-taking and task management, Notion also offers collaborative tools like Notion Calendar and Notion Web Clipper. Regarding this strategic decision, the company explained that as the capabilities of its AI assistant, Notion agents, continue to advance, users’ ways of handling emails have undergone significant changes. Currently, over half of Notion Mail users are able to manage their emails entirely through these AI agents without even accessing their inbox.
Consequently, Notion has opted to redirect all of its research and development efforts toward leveraging AI assistants to transform the way emails are managed. This shift aligns with the ongoing trends in the AI application market, where traditional standalone AI tools with single functions are gradually losing their edge, while “AI Agents” — intelligent systems capable of handling tasks across different scenarios with high levels of automation — are emerging as the focal point for competition among tech companies and industry-specific applications.
