Microsoft AI security chief leaks Walmart's AI strategy amid protest backlash
During a disrupted Build keynote, Microsoft's AI security lead Neta Haiby inadvertently exposed confidential Walmart communications regarding Microsoft's AI tools while presenting.
After protesters briefly interrupted the livestream — causing the feed to mute and cameras to tilt downward — Haiby resumed her presentation. While screen sharing, she accidentally displayed private Microsoft Teams conversations detailing Walmart's planned implementation of Microsoft's Entra and AI Gateway solutions.
The security-focused session, co-hosted with Microsoft's responsible AI lead Sarah Bird, addressed AI security best practices when interrupted by two former employees protesting Microsoft's cloud contracts with Israel.
"Sarah, you're whitewashing Microsoft's crimes in Palestine," shouted Hossam Nasr, founder of No Azure for Apartheid and a terminated Microsoft employee previously disciplined for organizing Gaza-related vigils outside company headquarters.
As Microsoft's major enterprise client, Walmart currently utilizes Azure OpenAI services. Internal Teams messages quoted Walmart engineers stating: "Microsoft significantly outpaces Google on AI security" and "We're ready to deploy Entra Web and AI Gateway."
Microsoft declined to comment regarding the protest or leaked communications.

Agrawal received termination papers after submitting resignation prior to the protest.
This marks Build's third interruption following earlier protests involving Palestinian tech workers and Microsoft employees during Nadella's keynote.
The incident follows Microsoft's recent statement regarding its Gaza conflict technology review, maintaining its Israeli Ministry of Defense contracts comply with corporate standards and haven't enabled human rights violations.
