Meta AI App Rises to No. 5 on App Store Following Muse Spark Launch
Meta’s AI application has experienced a significant surge in downloads following Wednesday’s release of its latest AI model, Muse Spark. This marks the first model launch under Alexandr Wang, head of Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, who joined from Scale AI last year to revamp the tech giant’s artificial intelligence strategy.
According to recent data from market intelligence firm Appfigures, consumer interest in the Meta AI app has driven its ranking from No. 57 prior to the Muse Spark launch on Wednesday to No. 5 on the U.S. App Store by Thursday, indicating a substantial influx of new users.
Meta states that its new AI model, accessible via both web and mobile platforms, represents a major improvement over its previous Llama 4 models. This release also reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to compete with rivals such as OpenAI and Anthropic, an initiative that has already incurred billions in AI talent recruitment costs, alongside a $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI.
Currently, Muse Spark supports multimodal inputs, including voice, text, and images, and is optimized for various tasks such as health education and solving complex science and math problems. It also assists with visual coding, enabling users to generate websites and mini-games from text prompts.
Additionally, Meta AI can deploy multiple subagents to address user queries, the company explained.
The model is scheduled to expand to other platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta’s AI glasses, over the coming weeks.
Coinciding with the model’s release, the Meta AI mobile app and website have been redesigned with a fresh interface, allowing users to switch between different modes based on their specific tasks.
Despite this recent growth, Meta AI’s app currently trails behind AI chatbots from leading model developers, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT (No. 1), Anthropic’s Claude (No. 2), and Google’s Gemini (No. 3).
Wang highlighted the app’s improved ranking in a post on X earlier Thursday, noting that the application is “still growing.”

Appfigures data reveals that the Meta AI app has been installed 60.5 million times globally across both the App Store and Google Play, with 25 million of those downloads occurring in the current year.
Over the past five months, Meta AI app downloads have increased by 138% compared to the first five months of the app’s availability.
India is now Meta AI’s largest market by downloads, followed by the U.S., Brazil, Pakistan, and Mexico, according to Appfigures.
