MacWhisper 14 Update Brings Direct Transcript Editing and Fixes High CPU Usage
Jodi Bruijn, the independent developer behind MacWhisper, released version 14.0 yesterday, prioritizing enhanced transcription performance and introducing a dedicated editor view. Since its 2023 launch, MacWhisper has established itself as an AI-powered transcription tool for macOS, supporting local execution of models like OpenAI’s Whisper and NVIDIA’s Parakeet. It handles audio, video, meeting recordings, and system audio directly, making it ideal for podcast production workflows.

Interface Upgrade: A Smoother Editing Experience
The 14.0 update introduces a new editor view, enabling users to edit transcripts directly within the main interface. This streamlines tasks like adding paragraphs, reassigning speakers, and saving key segments. The AI service interface has been redesigned for clarity and ease of use, with support for updated models from leading providers. Playback quality has improved after processing multiple text records, and the transcription window now offers better Cmd+A functionality and instant editor interactions.
Comprehensive Fixes in Version 14.1
Alongside 14.0, version 14.1 addresses numerous improvements, including region-specific Deepgram support (EU and US), filler word control, and expanded language support for Nova3. Cloud transcription uploads no longer load entire files into memory, resolving issues with menu bar positioning, audio-video sync, CPU idle usage, and edge cases in meeting recordings. The 14.1 update also fixes editor bugs and adds Gladia as a cloud transcription provider, allowing users to leverage their own Gladia API keys for transcription tasks.
