Kimi's Valuation Soars, Joins Top Tier of High-Value AI Firms
According to a report by LatePost on May 6th, Moonshot AI, the company behind the Kimi large language model, is nearing the completion of a new funding round totaling approximately $2 billion. This investment values the company at over $20 billion post-money. The round was led by Meituan Longzhu, with significant participation from China Mobile, CPE Yuanfeng, and other institutional investors. Meituan Longzhu alone contributed more than $200 million to this round.
This latest funding continues Kimi's aggressive fundraising strategy observed since the start of the year. In January and February 2026, the company successfully closed three consecutive financing rounds, raising $500 million, $700 million, and $700 million respectively. Including the current round, Moonshot AI has secured over $3.9 billion in less than six months. This surge in capital has propelled the company's valuation to more than four times its $4.3 billion valuation from November 2025.

Overall, Kimi's cumulative fundraising has now surpassed 37.6 billion yuan, positioning it as one of the most well-funded startups in the competitive large model landscape. The rapid influx of capital is primarily allocated to advancing model development, expanding computing infrastructure, and accelerating product iteration. This strategy aims to build a significant scale advantage amidst the intensifying competition in the generative AI sector.
Within the industry, this financing milestone underscores a broader trend of sustained and growing capital investment in foundational AI model companies. Leading projects are leveraging frequent, large-scale funding rounds to widen the gap in resources and technological capabilities. This dynamic is accelerating a shift toward a more capital-intensive and consolidated market structure within the large model domain.
