Huawei Cloud Wins Gartner Recognition for Open Strategy
The three major cloud providers typically dominate the conversation for hosting containerized workflows. As expected, Google, AWS, and Microsoft are the de facto leaders, with Red Hat, Alibaba, and SUSE rounding out the well-known names in microservices.
However, the latest Gartner Magic Quadrant for Container Management 2025 places Huawei in the Leaders quadrant for the first time. Huawei Cloud is steadily gaining traction in enterprise markets worldwide and driving innovation—particularly for AI-related workloads—even amid ongoing geopolitical challenges.
Huawei Cloud achieved the highest global customer satisfaction score (4.7) in Gartner's report, outperforming other Chinese giants Tencent and Alibaba, as well as the 'big three': AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
Gartner notes that Huawei Cloud offers the cloud industry's most comprehensive container product portfolio, with platforms available across public, distributed, and hybrid clouds, as well as edge environments.
While its client successes receive less attention in the US and Europe, Huawei has proven to be an effective provider for companies such as media service Starzplay—which streamed the 2024 Cricket World Cup across the Middle East and Central Asia—and Singaporean logistics leader Ninja Van.
The company has also seen significant adoption in South America and Africa. Examples include Nigeria’s e-commerce platform Konga, which runs on a cloud-native architecture powered by Huawei Cloud’s CCT Turbo, and Chile’s major utility Chilquina Energia, which reports an average performance improvement of 90% across its stack.
The Linux Foundation’s CNCF promotes an open, interoperable approach to cloud computing. Huawei is the only Chinese cloud provider holding a vice-chair seat on the CNCF Technical Oversight Committee and maintains over 20 project maintainer positions. It is also an active contributor to CNCF projects such as KubeEdge, Karmada, and Kuasar.
Huawei’s container offerings include CCE Turbo, CCE Autopilot, the distributed cloud-native service UCS, and Cloud Container Instance (CCI). Its CCE AI clusters form the infrastructure for CloudMatrix384 supernodes, delivering 300 petaflops of processing power and outperforming platforms like the Nvidia NVL72.
Despite facing skepticism in some Western markets, Huawei continues to innovate in AI and microservices, adapting to—and perhaps fueled by—ongoing economic and trade pressures.
AI industry observers are familiar with Huawei’s Pangu models, which come pre-trained with industry-specific data corpora for sectors including utilities, media, engineering, and telecommunications.
Huawei Cloud is available across 34 geographic regions with 101 availability zones. The company reports that its AI Cloud Services provide AI computing for over 1,300 customers, including global brands, public sector agencies, and academic institutions.
Huawei Cloud’s commitment—alongside other Chinese providers—to developing open models contrasts with the proprietary, guarded approach common among many Western technology firms.
Huawei Cloud’s leadership in open-source projects like KubeEdge and Volcano demonstrates a broad commitment to open-source development, expanding its capabilities in AI and container technology—a strength highlighted in Gartner’s evaluation.
The company’s ability to deliver supporting technologies adjacent to container management—such as AI silicon and security—helped secure its position in the Leaders quadrant of Gartner’s latest report.
