Google's Personal AI Assistant Rolls Out Nationwide in the U.S.
On Tuesday, Google announced the expansion of its Personal Intelligence feature to all users in the United States. This capability allows its AI assistant to provide more relevant responses by drawing connections across your Google ecosystem, including Gmail and Google Photos. Previously exclusive to paying subscribers, Personal Intelligence is now accessible within AI Mode in Search, the Gemini app, and Gemini in Chrome.
"Whether you're searching for a specific brand of sneakers you bought before or planning a family trip using your hotel confirmations and past travel photos, Personal Intelligence helps you find what you need without having to explain everything from scratch," Google stated in a blog post.
The feature is turned off by default. Users can decide if and when they want to link their Google apps to these personalized services.
For instance, if you're at a tire shop and can't recall your car's tire size, any AI chatbot could figure it out. But with Personal Intelligence, Gemini can go a step further. After recognizing family road trip pictures in your Google Photos, it might suggest all-weather tires suitable for your adventures.
Imagine planning a vacation and searching for activities and restaurants the whole family will love. With Personal Intelligence, AI Mode can use your hotel reservation from Gmail and past travel memories from Google Photos to create a customized itinerary. You might get a recommendation for a classic ice cream parlor, inspired by the numerous ice cream selfies saved in your Photos.

Here's another example: you're shopping for a new bag to match recently purchased shoes. With Personal Intelligence active in Chrome, you'll see a selection of options that align with your recent buys, favorite brands, and style preferences. Recommendations might include subtle matching details, like purses with hardware that complements your new gold shoes.
Google clarifies that Gemini does not train directly on the contents of your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. Instead, it learns from specific prompts entered into Gemini or AI Mode and the model's subsequent responses.
Personal Intelligence is available starting today in the U.S. for AI Mode in Search. The rollout is also beginning for free-tier users in the Gemini app and Gemini in Chrome.
Google notes that these personalized experiences are only for personal Google accounts and are not available for Workspace business, enterprise, or education users.
