Google Unveils Gemini Notebooks, Merging NotebookLM with Personal Knowledge Base

Google recently launched a "Notebooks" feature for Gemini, designed to help users manage complex projects by creating a personalized knowledge base. This update bridges the data gap between Gemini and the AI research assistant NotebookLM, marking a key step in Google's effort to build a closed-loop AI workflow.
Notebooks offers a unified workspace where users can centrally manage chat histories, documents, and PDFs tied to specific topics. Users can import past conversations and guide Gemini with custom instructions to produce highly targeted results by combining local files, internal tools, and web searches. Thanks to bidirectional sync, any data source added in Gemini or NotebookLM is shared in real time. This interoperability lets users flexibly leverage the strengths of both platforms—for example, generating visual infographics or video summaries in NotebookLM, then switching to the Gemini app for in-depth outline writing. Currently in gray-scale testing, the feature is expected to roll out globally in the coming weeks.
This update reflects a shift in AI assistants from general Q&A to deep knowledge management. By enhancing customized context logic, Google aims to reshape Gemini into a digital agent with long-term memory and professional collaboration capabilities, strengthening its competitive edge in the productivity tools market.
