"We're excited to announce that we're expanding AI Mode access beyond just our Google One AI Premium subscribers in the US," said Robby Stein, Google Search's vice president of product. "As we start to remove people from the Labs waitlist, we're seeing that early users really value the AI's ability to tackle those tricky questions with fresh, high-quality info and the chance to dig deeper with follow-ups and useful web links."

How Google AI Mode Works

Powered by Gemini 2.0, when you pose a question in AI Mode, you're greeted with an AI-generated response. It's not just a one-and-done deal; the AI might prompt you with follow-up questions to explore the topic further, or you can ask additional questions to satisfy your curiosity.

Take, for example, a user who asked, "When is the best time to conduct an outdoor photoshoot this week in the Boston Public Garden?" The AI didn't just provide a generic answer. It offered a detailed weather forecast for the week and noted the times when the park would be less crowded, addressing the primary question. But it went further, recognizing that a photoshoot is best during the "golden hour," and included sunset times as well.

When the same user asked for "fun background recommendations," Gemini didn't miss a beat, listing ideal photo spots in the garden. This kind of contextual understanding and interactive questioning is what makes AI Mode stand out from a regular Google search. Instead of merely pulling up existing online information, the AI grasps the context of your inquiry and can even answer questions you hadn't thought to ask yet.
