Ask Google Maps Questions Now, Powered by Gemini
Next time you're navigating through Google Maps to check out a business, you might find a handy new feature that lets you tap into Gemini for more detailed insights. Although Google hasn't made an official announcement, a new "Ask about place" card linked to Gemini has started appearing in Maps.
How 'Ask about place' Works
Here's how it goes: With Google Maps open, just tap on any business listing. Once you've got the listing up, summon Gemini the way you usually do—whether it's by saying, "Hey Google," or however you prefer. You'll see the regular Google input box, but keep an eye out for the "Ask about place" card hovering just above it. Give that card a tap, and a fresh window pops up where you can ask Gemini specific questions about the place you're checking out.
A heads-up though: Trying to ask Gemini about the place without using this special card? It won't work. You've got to go through the card to get the goods.

With this feature, you can grill Gemini on all sorts of details—opening and closing times, what services they offer, what's on the shelves, reviews, menu specifics, and more. It seems like the info comes straight from the Google Maps listing, not the business's own website. But if pricing details pop up in reviews, Gemini's got access to that too.
My Experience Testing the Feature
I decided to give it a whirl and opened up Maps to check out a local eatery. After tapping on the listing, I brought up Gemini and asked it to dish out the deets on the restaurant. And boy, did it deliver! It gave me the lowdown on the cuisine and menu, dropped the address and hours, summed up the reviews, and even threw in some dish recommendations.

I tried it out on all sorts of businesses—big retailers, local eateries, even quirky craft studios—and the card was there every time. Sure, I could've hunted down all this info myself within the Maps listing, but having Gemini pull it all together in one neat package? That's not just convenient; it's a real time-saver.

Интеграция Gemini в Карты? Звучит мощно! Но интересно, как AI справится с нашими сложными запросами, типа «Где тут недорого поесть с детьми после 22:00?» 🤷♂️
