Niels Bloemkamp, the acclaimed director behind the sci-fi hit "District 9," has just released his first AI-generated short film, "Yin Bing." This 13-minute sci-fi piece was created entirely using ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 large model.
During production, Bloemkamp guided the film frame by frame through text prompts. Notably, the project used the likeness and voice of 32 real actors, with professional concept designers also contributing.
Unveiling a Mysterious Plot and Opening a New Era for AI Feature Films
This short film stays true to the director's signature hard sci-fi and documentary style, following a helicopter pilot drawn into a secret super-soldier program by the military. Its tight visual rhythm and realistic texture quickly drew widespread attention from the global film and tech industries.
Bloemkamp shared on social media that he is currently planning a feature-length sci-fi film using the same method. He has founded a new AI film studio, aiming to gradually replace the complex production workflows of traditional filmmaking.
